Welcome to Hlane Royal National Park

Hlane Royal National Park, home to the largest herds of game in the Kingdom, encompasses 22,000 hectares of Swazi bushveld dominated by ancient hardwood vegetation. Home to Lion, Elephant, White Rhino, Giraffe and a whole host of other species, Hlane is also blessed with an abundant and diverse bird life, including the highest density of nesting white backed vultures in Africa.

'Hlane' means 'Wilderness' in siSwati and has two rest camps: Ndlovu and Bhubesi, which allow you to get back to nature.

Ndlovu is found immediately inside Hlane Royal National Park's main gate, easily accessible via the well-maintained tar Simunye road and offers a wide range of accommodation  including camping, rondavels and self-catering cottages - all located near to a large open-air restaurant which overlooks a waterhole frequented by Elephant and White Rhino. It is romantically lit by candle and lanterns at night where the absence of electricity makes for an authentic stay in the bush.

Bhubesi is located 14km from Ndlovu Camp and can be accessed by self-driving through the parks internal roads. The camp encapsulates six self-contained and self-catering beautiful stone cottages with all the comforts of home, including electricity, in a pristine riverine setting.

Guests at both camps along with day visitors can take advantage of a wide range of activities - self-drive roads, Open Land Rover Game Drives, Lion or Rhino Tours, Guided Mountain Bike Trails, Birding Walks and the Umphakatsi Visit to the neighbouring real Chief's Village which all depart from the activity centre at Ndlovu Camp. Hlane also offers one or two night fully-catered Ehlatsini Bush Trails - ideal for bush fanatics!

Essential Information: Please note gates are open from Sunrise to Sunset.

The Swazi people have a rich cultural heritage that is transmitted by word of mouth from one generation to the next. You may also be invited to engage in the performance of traditional music and dance which is an integral part of Swazi life from cultural rites and marriage ceremonies to hunting parties.

Reviews at Hlane

Becky & Jeetoo - on 02 October 2012

To everyone at Hlane, I was in the Canterbury Gold Duke of Edinburgh group that visited a few weeks ago. I just wanted to thank you very much for the effort everyone made during our visit. I really enjoyed every moment of our stay, and Hlane and all the people there will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope everything continues to go well and hopefully I can visit again someday. Thanks again

Toddy Landry - on 07 February 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Mkhaya and would steer others towards the reserve without hesitation. We actually spent time in all 3 reserves - Mlilwane, Hlane and Mkhaya. Each reserve offered a different sort of experience and we were thoroughly impressed by all three and by Swaziland as a whole.

Nqobile Siyaya - Swaziland on 04 January 2012

Hlane is so refreshing and has beautiful views!

Krappie Stoltz - SA on 20 August 2012

Beter and not so crowded as Kruger. The staff and managers are BRILLIANT. We must thank them and will be back end of August.

Damien Mac Innes - South Africa on 11 April 2012

I have just spent my 4th year at Hlane reserve and every time I go I am amazed and extremely surprised by the amazing level of service from all the staff at the reserve, I only camp there and every need I have is sorted out better than I could expect. I would like to compliment the staff for the amazing time we have had at Hlane. So, thank you to everyone at Hlane and cant wait to see you all again.

Adina Golombeck - SA on 10 April 2012

We stayed in a chalet which was clean, well equipped and well serviced - I think, someone lighting oil lamps when it gets dark! Watching the hippos in the waterhole next to the camp is the perfect way to spice up your sundowner. A really recommendable place! Great for a stopover on the way to Mozambique.

Khethukulunga Msibi - Swaziland on 05 April 2012

I loved how close our cottage was to the watering hole at Ndlovu camp. To wake up and see the elephants, rhinos and hippos about 50 metres away and the sound of the roaring lions all night long was a thrill.

Nomsa Thabethe - South Africa on 02 April 2012

Hlane Royal National Park was excellent!
